End of Summer 2006
About Martha Hoffmaster
On July 9th Martha Hoffmaster (matriarch of the Hoffmaster family) suffered a stroke on the left side of her brain. After stabilizing at Potomac Hospital, she spent a month of intensive rehabilitation therapy at Mount Vernon Hospital. She returned to her home in Woodbridge on August 16th.
Although mom has a long way to go in order to recover fully, she has regained use of her right side and is walking some with the help of a cane. We have hired a care-provider by the name of Doris who will initially be with mom 24 hours a day. Mom seems to like her very much. There are therapists working with Mom throughout the week and I have set up an office in the basement in order to be close by. This also allows me to help with and augment the therapies.
It goes without saying that as a family we deeply appreciate the cards, letters and flowers you all have been sending us. This is the kind of experience that reminds me of what a wonderful family we have; when I wrote the mission statement for our business, I wanted the Hoffmaster’s family to include customers, employees, owners, suppliers, and neighbors. Little did I know that there would be a time like this when the family would come through true blue and we are all truly grateful. Thanks so much for caring.
We're Certified!
On July 10th we received our National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA)
certification walk through and achieved certification. Obviously this doesn’t mean we are perfect but it does mean that we have developed a way of systematically analyzing when we are not perfect so that we can prevent repeating the same mistakes. It also means that we have processes in place to prevent and uncover those mistakes. Beyond these processes, the main focus of certification is to ensure that the facility is not confusing to customers and that we have a commitment to deal with people in an honest and friendly way. We are one of the first 80 dealers to achieve this certification and must repeat the process annually. An independent third party (5 star), not one of our manufacturers, conducts this review. We intend to use this leverage to help gain share in the marketplace and more importantly—as a means to continue improving our business so that we are ready for growth, should it come.
