I tell you I just get humbled by the way
we take care of our family members! 2 Saturdays ago a fellow
by the name of Joe Hoban came in. Now about 4 years ago Joe traded
in a used boat he'd bought from us on a Maxum that he kept at
Pilot House. That was about the last we heard of him until 2
Saturdays ago when he said he still reads the website regularly
and really believed in us sending in those care packages. He
dropped of a generous check and then basically left. I know the
last thing Joe would want is to be mentioned in this newsletter,
but I do it for 2 reasons:
1-I think and have always thought that
our family members (employees, vendors, customers) as a group
are some of the highest quality people on this planet bar none.
I don't know if we're the richest money-wise but we store away
many riches that have nothing to do with money. Joe is that kind
of man. 2-People may not have had a boat here or ever had a boat
here but in some way have connected or interfaced with our family.
It astounds me how people I haven't seen in 10 years or longer
send a note or stop by just to touch base. It's a very fulfilling
thing.
Speaking of high quality people, this past
weekend the Wynne's the Lynch's and the Ledig's amongst others
came in and made contributions. I don't want to forget to mention
people, forgive me if I didn't see you do it. And I know there
are lots of people who contribute in other ways. I just want
these people to know how special I think they are.
The newest request? Pop Tarts!
Don't miss the Anniversary Party! May 8th 12-4 rain or shine! We've got a 5 piece
bluegrass band lined up and I really hope the weather's good
because I want to set up outdoor activities. Anyway keep the
date in mind.

Thanks to everyone who came to our spring
kickoff party! It was so special having members of our family
and "prospective members" in the same place, having
fun, whooping it up, and getting excited about the season coming
up.

Update 4/9/04
Just heard from John Hernandez. 2nd wave of care packages came
yesterday just in time to shore up morale with the latest trouble
going on. It's about to get hotter still. The packages meant
a lot to everyone. Latest request? Toothbrushes! Seems they need
high quality toothbrushes to clean out rifles as well as to replace
the worn out ones.
Update 3/24/04
don't send any more hard goods until the ones we just sent are
distributed. We are still collecting money, thanks to Tom Jordan
for a generous donation. We want for John to hand out the stuff,
tell what didn't work and what he especially liked so we can
make the packages better. Make checks out to hoffmaster's Marina
and write "care packages" in the memo. Martha Hoffamster
is handling the funds.
Update 3/17/04 First care package goes
out! Family members Ed and Mike from Florida, owners of a 308
Chris Craft "Sea Woof" donated $100 to get the ball
rolling. This plus other contributions from family members including
my sister Deborah all added up to the haul pictured here that
went out 3/15/04 and we still haven't used all of Ed and Mike's
money!

On behalf of John Hernandez and all
the gang overseas thanks and keep it coming! The drop box is
located next to the snack bar in the kids play area.
You may not know this but John Hernandez,
who worked part time at the marina for many years, is a marine
based at Quantico. He was shipped to Iraq recently and I just
heard from him. It's pretty tough over there although he's not
complaining. Lot's of stress as you can imagine. Most importantly
however is this last remark:
And in case the Hoffmaster family (Marina
employees and boat owners) want to support the troops by sending
care packages they can mail them to me and I will distribute.
The stuff we can all use here are baby wipes, chap stick, magazines,
more ammo (just kidding), snacks, "AA" batteries, and
stuff like that.
Because of security issues I am not allowed
to give John's address, but would be happy to be a drop off center,
even if we do the packaging. We'll keep a bin beside the parts
counter labelled "for the troops." Let's show our troops
we care by getting out 25 packages the first month at least!
I'll post the results in my next newsletter.

What a Boat Show!
| Great venure,
great people! The show was a total success! We sold 290's, 240's
230's 236's, 204's, 28 Corsairs, and especially 200 and 220 Cobalts.
Looks like Cobalt and Chaparral are about sold out for the year!
We're still struggling for more boats. Chris Crafts are a little
easier to come by but not by much. Thanks so much to Frank and
Sally Ballinger, Mary Lynch, Art Wenk, Dan Murawinski, Bob Furtek,
Marc Roulier and Tom Hamel for helping us out in the booths. |
| Got the blue
truck fixed up, bought a nice 3/4 ton Ford and a Yukon XL so
our fleet goes from 2 trucks to 4! Painted the dumpsters, still
working on the pier roofs but getting there, now we'll start
up some landscaping. We want you to be proud of the place! |
