What's happening around the Marina

Well we got through 2 hurricanes to give you this report. I'm going to place a small charge on those we helped but i you did your own boat and I billed you in error let me know. I don't want hurricanes to be a profit center but I'd like to recover some costs. If you weren't there the first one on Labor Da actually caused more trouble than the second one. The first one came up to the dock boards but the second one didn't because of a northwest breeze.

Richard is getting winterization lists put together and I'll try to post them this coming week.I anticipate no increase in cost of materials and only a slight increase in labor costs as we adjust the labor rate to market levels.

The marina is totally full! I know I've also had lots of requests to move customers to slips that they feel are more desirable. For that reason I'm going to phase in a small rental increase starting April, but will announce it in January. My policy is that you get the slip rate you have for 3 years, so if you have had the same rate for three years expect an increase but if you've been here for 2 years your increase would be effective 1 year from April.

We hope to continue our efforts to improve the docks- looks like over the winter we'll spend $10,000 on wiring alone- but if you have suggestions on what would improve your experience please email us. The only thing I'm against is a pool. I'd need to jump the rents a whole lot for that to happen.

The size and timing/phase in of the increase will depend in part on what you guys want to see - I'll factor it in to my calculations.

We had a super end of summer party thanks to the customers we know and love Photos right here!

The yard
It never fails to surprise me. Non- winterization work orders still total about 900 hours! We take in an hour of work for every one we complete. I plan to mop up as much of this as possible before winterization starts big time and then try to use January and March to mop up the rest. It's still 300 hours less than I dealt with last October when I started running the yard so hopefully we can get things square.
Gas
I want to be on honor system but you have to fill in the tickets right. If you bought gas in late August twice please let me know-I have 2 gas sales posted on the fuel shop where we can't decipher the name from the signature because the person didn't write their last name down.
Snack Bar
Here again- as we go into the year 2000 I'd like to know if there are changes to the menu or operation of the snack bar you'd like to see. Obviously I'm not trying to make money on it. We all want that snack bar cranking out those happening cheeseburgers-but if you'd like new items or more convenience in some way we'd like to know.

Boat Sales
Things are finally starting to slow new boat sales-wise but used boats are going pretty well still. We plan to increase our Chaparral presence this year, cut a couple of models that overlap out of each line, and get stronger in the deck boats because now I've got a great 26' Chris Craft and 23' Chaparral to sell in addition to the 23' Chris. Biggest thing I have to do is get boats from Chaparral. All the boat lines are selling out now and I don't have the same pull with Chaparral I do with Chris Craft being a rookie.

The Chaparral 350 is still not in full production-therefore I still don't think I'll see one until February.

I heard a rumor that the Chris Craft 39 Roamer prototype will be shown at Miami. Stay tuned for more info. If it's going to be there and Miami (for once) isn't at the same time as DC I'm down there big time!

How many of you folks went to Chantilly? I think I might need to go in there with Chaparral and would like your input if you went last year.
