What's happening around the Marina

Ed McPike had a few shots from the Labor Day hurricane (many thanks Ed!) I wanted to post them because people always say to me "I've never seen the river so high!" or "I've never seen it so low." Well I'm here to tell you folks I've seen it 3 feet over the dock a couple of times and I've seen all the boats sitting in mud before. This is God's hand and it's important to look at it that way. This fall I had people trying to move to deeper water because these cold fronts would come through and the northwest wind would blow all the water out of the river. The point is, this is the Lord's way of telling you the season is coming to a close, that we don't live in Florida, and even if you could get out you'd probably run aground anyway.

In that vein I'd like to report that our Jim Ball (yes, that's THE Jim Ball) has started a campaign to get the river channel dredged. The channel should maintain 7' at mean low, and there are some spots that, although they're fine in the summer, showed their butts to us this winter. We fully support Jim in his efforts, as do most of the marinas and towing services on the river, and will keep you updated.

The yard
Lost one and gained one! Paul Newman left for the auto industry. We certainly loved our time with Paul and wish him the best. We hired Steve Thorne in as our newest tech. He's been working at the marina for about a year under the USMC work detail program and has a background as a helicopter pilot. So far he has been doing light mechaincal, gelcoat, winterizations, and general systems repair. We'll be sending him to drive school and EFI over the winter so we're up and running by spring.
Gas
2 changes in policy as of today. Anyone who wants a key to the fuel shop who is a regular customer gets one, and we will automatically order gas every Monday except in January, February, and early March.

Boat Sales

The Chaparral 350 is still not in full production-therefore I still don't think I'll see one until Summer.

The Chris Craft 39 Roamer prototype will not be shown at Miami. I still think I see a prototype in April and get a boat in the summer

We will be displaying Chaparrals at the Chantilly Boat Show Jan 27-30 and Chris Crafts Feb 17-21, 2000 at the Washington Convention Center show
