Since we're doing a freebie at the snack bar we thought it would be a good idea to designate a charity for donations-one that would impact our lives as boaters. We settled on the Anacostia Watershed Society. This group is dedicated to reviving the Anacostia River, which is the last tidal estuary on the Potomac that is in poor shape. Monies donated will go to cleaning up this watershed and providing education programs, etc. to young people so they grow up respecting the river. Hoffmaster's will do a dollar for dollar match on each contribution. A basket will be placed on the corner of the snack bar counter for this purpose, or you may send a check or charge to your VISA or Mastercard. All contributions are tax deductible. |

You in the marina may have known Steve as the fellow that owns the large boat at the end of C pier. I knew him as a good friend. Steve bought his first boat from us in 1985. It was a used 45' Chris Craft motor yacht. I'll never forget dad talking about the tough but honorable and fair way he negotiated. He asked if he could take the boat for a test ride . Dad said he was too busy but Steve could take it. Steve called hours later asking how to get in from the island. Dad asked "one tree island?" It was Cobb Island! This from essentially a new boater. But a brave boater, a great boater, and a great man. I got so much advice from him. He ministered to my Christian Faith with his happy go lucky outlook on life tempered by his experience and past pain. He and his brother Rudy organized a boat trip to New England not long ago figuring they never knew if the cancer would come back. I saw that video and it was pure Steve-tons of people on the boat, whales, open water, good times. And that's how I'll remember him. Our condolences to those he leaves behind. Arrangements below: Funeral arrangements for Steve Zimpel |
| Thanks for your input on all of the changes recommended by the 20 Group! We're still working on the piers and on the jet ski area. Mainly trying to get the parking lot clear so cars have a place to move to. Fuel area is done, pet signs and no fire signs are being made as we speak. Yard baclog is normal for this time of year. |
